Our Proposals
The Middleton Towers Restoration Group, run by Middleton Towers Railway Station CIC, will deliver a unique railway heritage experience at the former Middleton Towers railway station, one that can be enjoyed by people of all ages.

Middleton Towers aims to enable the growth of a community within the parishes Leziate & Ashwicken, Bawsey and Middleton, by providing a facility for people to:
-
Enjoy the ambience and history of the former Middleton Towers railway station in a tea room setting;
-
Share stories and anecdotes with one another about their experiences and past family experiences of the station and the Lynn & Dereham railway;
-
Encourage children and young people to participate in providing care and attention to a communal garden, promoting the adoption of a ‘green thumb’ mindset amongst young people with the aim of promoting respect for the environment;
-
Facilitate the education of local people through public talks, print and online media, to promote the history of the Lynn & Dereham railway.

The Tea Room

Our proposed station tea room will be situated within two buildings: the waiting room and the 'lamp room' (also known as the store room). The waiting room will house the seating for customers, while the lamp room will house the kitchen for staff.

In order to make the tea room function work, we intend on creating a new doorway opening between the lamp room and the waiting room, which are not currently connected with an entrance. Staff, which will initially consist of volunteers, will take orders from the customers at their tables, prepare the orders in the kitchen and bring the items to the customers,
We intend on incorporating the old ticket window in some capacity, possibly as a serving hatch on the front of the kitchen room, to allow takeaway orders for cakes and beverages.

Proposed items on offer:
Drinks:
A range of teas and coffee options, bottled water, hot chocolate, fizzy drinks, isotonic drinks.
Food
Sausage rolls, cupcakes, cookies, fruits, cakes, sandwiches, health food bars / protein bars.

The Garden

In its heyday, Middleton Towers used to win awards for its flowerbed displays.

We intend on allocating a portion of the garden area at the back of the waiting room building and beside the infilled siding, to be used as a communal garden. In its heyday, Here, patrons will be offered the opportunity to adopt a raised or ground-level planter. These would be custom made wooden planters, made in-house and bespoke according to the size of the area available to us in the garden area.

We consider the introduction of a communal garden to be imperative for instilling a community-led venture at Middleton Towers, promoting care and attention for the environment and parent-child engagement.
