Basic asset protection (BAPA) signed
01/03/2024
I have now signed the basic asset protection agreement (BAPA) with Network Rail. This is the contract which officially starts the partnership between ourself and Network Rail in restoring Middleton Towers station.
We will now need to arrange site visits between our group and Network Rail, to establish the opportunities as well as the contraints associated with the site.
After the site visit(s) we will need to submit our data and drawings to Network Rail, such as measurements of items and the process we will follow to carry out work on each stage of the project. I do not expect this to be a long process but one where we will need to submit substantial amounts of detail.
Photos taken of the site today

Photos taken today show a tidier garden area, following garden work carried out by Sibelco's contractor.
We are still about £2,000 away from being able to start work. It is very simple: until we raise this money, we will not be able to start work. If all of our supporters donated £2.60, then we would be there.
We do not know how long the station has left before it is too late. Please consider supporting us:

New contract received from Network Rail
20/12/2023
We have now received a new basic asset protection agreement (BAPA) from Network Rail. Our project is being considered as a non-recoverable community project, therefore no fee is incurred.
We need public liability insurance to be in place before we are able to sign on the dotted line. We have contacted two organisations regarding this.
In the meantime, our team will scrutinise the BAPA and sign it off once the insurance is in place.
I suspect we won’t have an update until January.

Scaffolding and roof cover quotes received
04/11/2023
We have received a quote from a very reputable local scaffolding company. The work would involve measures to help protect the ticket office building and canopy from further deterioration. A temporary roof cover will initially be on the building once the roof has been removed.
We await an update from an organisation who may fund our project, but the sticking point is still the fee Network Rail are asking for.

Contract received from Network Rail
We have now received Network Rail's basic asset protection agreement (BAPA) and cost estimates. This will require the signing-off by myself and the head of restoration however, this will not be an immediate process as everything will be scrutinised thoroughly.
